Calendar / Kalender / تقويم (aka, the fun of locali[zs]ation)

When I was working at Booking.com, I was tasked to create a new calendar for our partners. It took me a couple of months. Months? Yes, months. Creating a calendar that works correctly all across the world for 42 different languages and even more locales, is not something that you do in a week. In this talk I will talk to you about the weird things I learned. From Brazilian Summer Time to Slovakian (or was it Slovenian?) date formatting. And how to avoid the many (many!) mistakes I made.

Bio

Paul is working as a front-end person at SpronQ in The Netherlands. He is very active in the Dutch web development community; he’s part of the Fronteers Conference and runs the meetup group NLHTML5. He’s passionate about helping people getting into tech and making the web work for everyone. When he’s not working, you will find him either gaming, sleeping or spending time with his girlfriend and their cat and two rabbits.
